At North Road Academy we are a unique establishment in the educational services and provisions we offer. Flexi-School is an add-on to the foundations of our learning and educational services and is a great opportunity for homeschooled children to attend on a part-time basis. Children attending our Flexi-school are taught from the National Curriculum by our fully qualified teachers, in a face-to-face setting together with our full-time time students. Children attending the Flexi-School are required to uphold our core school vision and values, IKHLAAS, that are also encompassed within our Flexi-School programme.
What is Flexi-School?
Flexi-schooling is an arrangement between the parents and school where children are registered at the school in the usual way but attend school part-time. For the rest of the time, the child is home educated.
The Department of Education believes the primary responsibility for ensuring that children are properly educated belongs to parents.
How will Flexi-School work for my child(ren)?
At North Road Academy, the programme for Flexi-Schooling is decided by parents. Parents have the flexibility to decide which lessons they want their child(ren) to attend and focus on more from their learning at home and this can change on a weekly basis.
Is Flexi-School offered for my homeschooled child(ren)?
Yes, absolutely! Flexi-Schooling is an add-on to the core education that is learnt from home. Flexi-School offers a great opportunity for homeschooled children as it strengthens core knowledge and learning, develops and enriches skills and broadens social interaction.
How are Flexi-School sessions operated and what is the cost involved?
Students attending, participate in face-to-face sessions, together with our full-time students. Sessions are split according to year groups i.e year 1, 2 etc. All sessions are £8 with 55 minutes per subject. Flexi-School is only open for students to attend from Monday to Thursday. As sessions are operated in conjunction with our full-time student timetable, snacks, lunch, prayer times, morning and lunch breaks are not included and are a separate charge to your child being present at the school. Where sessions are spread throughout the school day, students cannot be left at the school. In cases where they are not collected on time at the end of the session an £8 charge is added per hour they remain at the school.
Our phonics sessions are based on a grouping system, therefore prior in-house assessments are required to be completed before students are able to start sessions.
Are resources included? Is there any extra charges?
Resources such as notebooks, stationery, and reading books are not included and are provided at an extra cost. Assessments prior to starting Flexi-school and at the end of each half term are provided at an extra cost. Assessments are useful tools that help parents and teachers to determine the progress and attainment of your child(ren).
Payments will be required to be paid at the beginning of each week before. Payment will be required to be paid before your child(ren) start the Flexi-School sessions.
