WELCOME TO NORTH ROAD CENTRE FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN

The first Special Needs Centre with an Islamic Ethos, for children aged 4-16.

At North Road Academy, our ethos is Learn to Achieve, and we firmly believe that every child should be provided with the necessary support to enable this. North Road Academy is an Independent Islamic Faith Mainstream through school from Reception Class to Year 11. There is also a registered Nursery attached to the school as well our purpose-built Special Needs Support Centre. The Centre meets the varying needs of SEN children. We have acknowledged there is a lack of Islamic special needs provisions available, therefore we have committed to the community to provide those children with the support they so desperately need. We aim to embed Islamic values and etiquettes which may be otherwise missed and forgotten amongst mainstream provisions إن شاء الله تعالى.

In conjunction with the Local Authority, our Centre for Exceptional Children will focus on supporting children with Educational, Health and Care Plans (EHCP).

The SEN Centre offers specialist and/or additional support in 4 ways:

1. Children with an EHCP may be educated in the SEN Centre with a high level of staffing and a specific, bespoke curriculum built around the individual needs of the child.

2. Children with an EHCP may be educated in the Mainstream Academy alongside their peer group if this is best possible and access the mainstream curriculum modified by their named TA.

3. The SEN Centre offers weekly SEN SOS Surgeries to offer advice and support to children, teachers and parents should they require any additional guidance on any issues regarding SEN.

4. The SEN Centre analyses assessment data from end-of-term tests in the main Primary School and identifies children who have scored below the threshold in English and Maths and may require additional support and/or intervention in classes.
