Message from the Head

“Learn to Achieve” is a principle that we aim to instil in every child and young person who passes through the doors of North Road Academy. It reflects our belief that every pupil, regardless of their individual needs or starting point, should be given the opportunity, support and encouragement to learn, develop and achieve their full potential.

As an independent Muslim SEND school, our provision is centred not only on academic learning, but also on the personal, spiritual, moral, social and emotional development of every pupil. We recognise that children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities may learn in different ways, and we are committed to providing an environment in which each pupil is understood, valued, and supported as an individual.

We believe that our pupils should be inspired by strong Islamic values and character. Sincerity for the sake of Allah ﷻ, honesty, kindness, respect, patience and responsibility are fundamental to the ethos of our school and help to lay strong foundations for our pupils’ future lives.

At North Road Academy, we place great importance on wellbeing, including the development of self-awareness, self-esteem, confidence and resilience. We also encourage moral responsibility, good character, mutual respect and consideration for others. Our pupils are supported to develop an understanding of the wider world, including different cultures, traditions, communities, public institutions and services. We value the rich diversity of the society in which we live and aim to prepare our pupils to participate positively, confidently and respectfully within their communities.

Our primary goal is to provide a safe, caring, nurturing and stimulating learning environment in which pupils feel secure, understood and appropriately challenged. Our approach to education is firmly rooted in the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, while recognising and responding to the individual educational, communication, sensory, emotional and developmental needs of each learner.

We understand that progress looks different for every child. For this reason, teaching and learning at North Road Academy are personalised to pupils’ individual abilities, needs and stages of development. Our curriculum combines Islamic Education with appropriate elements of the National Curriculum, alongside specialist programmes including ASDAN and the Equals Curriculum. This enables us to provide meaningful and accessible learning experiences that support academic progress, communication, independence, life skills and preparation for adulthood.

We aim to provide a broad, balanced and creative curriculum using a range of teaching approaches, resources and interventions. Our aspiration is for every pupil to make meaningful progress, develop greater independence and grow into a confident, well-balanced young person with a strong Islamic identity.

Partnership with parents and carers is central to achieving this. We believe that open, respectful and regular communication between pupils, families, teachers, support staff and other professionals is essential. By working together, we can better understand each pupil’s strengths, needs and aspirations and provide consistent support throughout their educational journey.
